Cleveland Metroparks has two all-terrain beach wheelchairs available for individuals who require mobility assistance at the beach. With two large balloon rear wheels and 360 degree front casters, the beach wheelchair will allow you to glide across sandy beaches, a nearly impossible task for conventional wheelchairs.
Beach wheelchairs are available to borrow free of charge on a first come, first served basis when lifeguards are on duty. Lifeguards are on duty 11 a.m. – 9 p.m. daily the first Saturday in June to the second Sunday in August then weekends through Labor Day. Users are required to provide their name, address, and phone number.
Beach wheelchairs may be used anywhere on the beach that is open to the public and supervised by lifeguard staff. Users may use non-approved flotation devices in addition to U.S. Coast Guard approved lifejackets.
From the Handicap Beach Access parking area, you will see a sign informing you to call a lifeguard for assistance at 440-617-9898, or you can ask any of the lifeguards on duty for assistance. The lifeguard station is a small brick building located on the beach just west of the Handicap Beach Access parking area.
