My December Favorites

Although it’s hard to believe, the holiday season is officially here. As I write this, it is rainy and rather warm outside. It seems we are going to have a very un-Cleveland Christmas this week! There are still lots of ways to come out and play and get in the holiday spirit at Cleveland Metroparks. Here are a few of my favorite ways to enjoy winter in the Park District:   Tobogganing at the Chalet – the tallest, fastest toboggan chutes in Ohio, are a must visit. The twin, 700-foot chutes run with o...

Trails (old and new!)
Posted: 9/12/2015
Growing up, my weekends were spent in South Chagrin Reservation, hiking and exploring. So when I moved back to Cleveland last year, I was excited to rediscover the trails I had spent so much of my childhood on. Our family spent summers hiking in Sulphur Springs, and winters at the sledding hill. I excitedly shared the trails with my husband, who was new to the Cleveland area. Each weekend we would try new trails and combinations of trails in Sulphur Springs and Squaw Rock. Recently, we decided it was ti...

Daylight Savings Time also means more sunlight – how will you enjoy the longer, brighter days? Here’s what I am planning this spring: -           Taking lots of hikes – spring hiking is amazing – you can s...

Being in the moment. Taking fall in.

A few weekends ago I went hiking with friends and did something I admittedly had not done in a long time. I left my phone at home. I encourage everyone to consider leaving your phone at home, or at least leaving it in your pocket from time to time when you are out - and truly experience nature. I love taking photos, and especially with the leaves changing I found myself wishing I could capture these images but it forced me to take mental images and really take it all in, the smell of the outdoors, breat...

Rediscovering Cleveland Metroparks
Posted: 7/21/2014
Last spring, I decided to move back to Cleveland after living in Chicago for eight years. I loved Chicago, but was looking to be closer to my family and enjoy the outdoors more regularly. I have very fond memories of Cleveland Metroparks as I grew up near the South Chagrin reservation.  Weekends were filled with creek hiking, cookouts at the pavilion and endless exploring. On my wedding day, I had invited guests to join me for a run at South Chagrin as I wanted to show off a piece of Cleveland many...

Training your canine for the K-9 5K
Posted: 4/9/2014
The weather is warmer, the snow has melted, the flowers are blooming - there has never been a better time to get out and run.   Why not choose a reliable running companion who won’t cancel on you because the Indians game is in extra innings – your dog!   Last week, my dog Briar and I started training for Cleveland Metroparks Ranger K-9 5-K.   Training for the race, which takes place on May 3 at Edgewater Park, has been a great way for both of us to get active, stop hibernating and have fu...
