Troop Opportunities

Cleveland Metroparks group service projects typically begin in April and run through October, weather-dependent. (Group requests for other months may be considered depending on current project needs and weather permitting).  Depending on which location you are interested (view a list of our locations), we typically have projects for general/beach clean-up, painting, staining, gardening/pruning, staffing special events, trail work, and others.

We will need the following information in order to research a project for your troop:

  • Troop Name/Number
  • Full contact information (name, phone, and email)
  • Preferred dates and times
  • Approximate number of participants (youth, adult)
  • Preferred location (*Choose up to 3 Reservations)

We also require a Certificate of Liability Insurance from the sponsoring agency listing Cleveland Metroparks as an additional insured. If this is not available through your group insurance carrier, the alternative is to have each participant complete a Waiver and Release and Medical Treatment Release form.  These forms will be emailed to you once a project is confirmed.  The completed forms should be brought with you and returned to staff upon arrival at your project.

To research meaningful service, we need at least 3-6 weeks advance notice. For larger groups, please allow more time to coordinate advanced logistics, staff, and supplies.

If you are interested in a project, please provide responses to the requested information above to

If a project is secured, then confirmation materials will be sent directly to the troop coordinator with a map, directions, forms, and full contact information of the staff point person for the project.

Thank you again for your interest and we look forward to working with you to find a volunteer project that is the right fit for your troop with Cleveland Metroparks.

Please allow 1-2 weeks to process your request.

Eagle Scout or Gold Award Projects

Thank you for your interest in Cleveland Metroparks Volunteer Services!  Eagle Scout or Gold Award projects typically begin in April and run through October, weather-dependent.

As an organization, our visitors have greatly benefited from scout’s contributions over the years and we sincerely appreciate this service. For Eagle Scout or Gold Award projects, we do our best to determine if the proposed project may be a good fit for Cleveland Metroparks. Successful proposals identify an area of need to enhance our mission of conservation, education and recreation. For example, scouts have improved a section of trail by building a connector, redirecting water flow or decommissioning a significant section of bootleg trail, improved esthetics through a large-scale painting project, or conserved natural resources through an innovative addition, like recycling posts for fishing line.

Unfortunately, as an organization we receive many more requests from scouts to participate in an Eagle Scout or Gold Award project than realistically exist.

To be fair to all inquires, we process Eagle Scout or Gold Award inquiries on a case by case basis to ensure there is a meaningful, sustainable, and time appropriate project available. We fully recognize this is a priority to potential candidates. We will do our best to explore with staff and candidate if the proposed project meets our needs, as well as the requirements to achieve the level of Eagle Scout.

The following information is required in order to explore if a potential project exists:

  1. Full Contact information (name, phone, and email)

  2. Preferred location (*Choose up to 3 reservations)

  3. Preferred dates and times

  4. Project proposal

  5. Troop Number and Scout Master

  6. Date of your 18th birthday (Projects must be proposed at least 6 months in advance)

Factors in the decision making include, but are not limited to:

  • if the candidate demonstrates appropriate scout spirit and leadership

  • a creative and sustainable project is proposed/agreed upon that adds unique value to the organization

  • if a scout can complete the project within an appropriate season and well before turning 18

If you are interested in a project, please provide responses to the requested information above to Please allow up to 2 weeks for processing.

Once our staff has the opportunity to assess these factors, if the project is deemed appropriate, then Volunteer Services will make the connection between a candidate and a point staff person. If a candidate’s proposal is accepted by a staff person, then the scout is required to have liability forms for each and every participant completed before beginning the work. Volunteer Services will customize these forms per project.

Thank you for your willingness to support Cleveland Metroparks by proposing a Eagle Scout or Gold Award project for consideration!

Please allow 1-2 weeks to process your request.
