Abstract: This study will collect and assess biological data on the current conservation status of the threatened, endemic, and little known Pfrimer’s parakeet. Just listed by IUCN, the species has a limited distribution and is strongly associated with the disappearing tropical dry forests and extensive, yet threatened, limestone caves in central Brazil. The project will focus on determining the current and potential species distribution; habitat availability on multiple temporal and spatial scales; habitat use and species tolerance to disturbance; and how populations are spatially and genetically structured. This information will be used for species conservation planning and will test the applicability of a general model, to be developed, that improves assessment of extinction risk in species of concern.
