On Monday, August 21, 2006, Alcor, a seven-year-old male polar bear from the Erie Zoo, died at approximately 8:00 p.m. in transit from the University of Pennsylvania's New Bolton Center in Kennett Square, Pa. to Cleveland Metroparks Zoo.

Following surgery at the New Bolton Center to repair a broken leg, Alcor was to receive post-operative care at Cleveland Metroparks Zoo's Sarah Allison Steffee Center for Zoological Medicine.

To determine the cause of death, a necropsy (animal autopsy) will be performed at the University of Pennsylvania's New Bolton Center. All inquiries should be directed to the Erie Zoo's Public Relations Department: 814.864.4091 x229
