Ape
TAG Conservation Initiative Awardees
2010-2012 |
| |
| The
Ape TAG is proud to announce the first recipients of the Conservation
Initiative. These eight projects were selected from the 40 submitted
by an international panel of ape experts. They represent a range of
conservation activities, from basic monitoring and protection to law
enforcement to ecotourism to veterinary/disease monitoring. In addition,
they all include strong capacity building components, which will further
enhance the ability of range states to conserve apes and other wildlife. |

Sanctuary
Support
The Ape TAG Conservation Initiative also dedicated 5% of funds from
Gold and Platinum level supporters to sanctuaries caring for apes
in Africa and Asia. Funds were given to the Pan
African Sanctuary Alliance to help support an international conference
for sanctuary veterinarians and to the Sumatran
Orangutan Conservation Programme for infrastructure costs at their
quarantine centre in North Sumatra.
