Summary:
The data contained in this document were gathered from December 2002 and January 2003. Representatives from 38 conservation, education, and academic institutions
in Northeast Ohio were invited to submit electronic forms on the Cleveland Metroparks Zoo website (http://www.clemetzoo.com/). Participants submitted one form for each conservation, education, or research project conducted since 1992. A total of 18 people provided data on 41 projects, 37 of which are ongoing. Most submissions were
either butterfly monitoring (19/41, 46%) or butterfly education (16/41, 39%) projects; only 5 were research projects (12%). Projects occur predominantly in Cuyahoga, Lake, and Geauga counties. Butterfly monitoring projects focused on species occurring in the habitats but education projects included a range of both native and exotic species.

We are conducting the Northeast Ohio Butterfly Projects Database project to identify what
butterfly education, research, conservation, and monitoring projects are occurring in Northeast
Ohio. Data may be entered at any time on the Cleveland Metroparks Zoo website and periodic summary updates will be provided on the website. We hope this information will encourage sharing of information and resources between conservation, education, and academic institutions in Northeast Ohio.
