Zookeeper's Field Journal

April 12, 2005

This morning Nick, Linda, and Jeff went back out with Chad while I tried to straighten things out with the permits. Still no good news, but it is reassuring that the USFWS is really looking into what they see as a potential "loophole". Theoretically, people could import A. zeteki calling them A. varius without a CITES permit........so it is good that they are being so thorough....but man, I hope that they decide to let us in!

This afternoon we started back to the city by way of El Valle. We stayed at the Hotel Campestre. This hotel has been supporting PGF from the beginning and has allowed us to stay for free when we are working to help save the frogs. They have a golden frog display as well with bilingual graphics donated by PGF. It is a beautiful hotel and wonderful staff.....I highly recommend vacationing there. El Valle has to be the most relaxing place in the world.

After caring for the frogs back in the hotel room we went out to dinner at Don Pepe's and stopped by to say hello to Mario at his serpentarium.

When we got back to the hotel, I was exhausted and went straight to bed, but Jeff and Nick went out to hike the trails behind El Valle and had a close encounter of the Fer De Lance kind! No one got hurt....so a pretty cool experience for them.
