Abstract: Madagascar is currently designating a suite of new protected areas and this represents an excellent opportunity to include P. rufus roosts within the boundaries of new reserves. As the distribution of theses roosts is poorly documented for most regions, surveys are needed to locate remaining roosts and to identify those in need most need of conservation. This project seeks to conduct a conservation assessment of flying fox roosts in the Menabe Region, western Madagascar, leading to their inclusion within the proposed new Menabe Site de Conservation and the development of monitoring protocol to be implemented following a programme of awareness raising of conservation professionals active in the region. |
