| Tracking the tiger in Fragmented habitat of Terai Arc Landscape: Non Invasive Genetic Approach |

| Abstract: Tigers are extremely difficult to study and the lack of information on such elusive species makes it difficult to provide for their conservation. This project uses molecular scatology to genetically identify species and individuals, but also to determine genetic variation in tigers across the across Chitwan National Park. This project will standardize the field protocol for preservation and extraction techniques for tiger fecal samples. This pilot project will help to replicate the project at the larger scale across other tiger ranging protected areas in Nepal sharing similar geographical location and climate condition with established sampling protocol using molecular scatology approach. This is the first genetic study on wild tigers in one of highest density of tigers in India sub continent and the noninvasive techniques will be applicable to endangered species around the in Nepal and the world. |
