2007 GRANT RECIPIENTS

Cleveland Metroparks Zoo
Amphibian Conservation Fund
Fifty percent of the world’s 6,000 amphibian species are currently threatened. This Global Amphibian Crisis spurred the Zoo to create the Amphibian Conservation Fund to specifically support projects and initiatives to save these creatures from the brink of extinction.

Cleveland Metroparks Zoo
Bat Houses
There is currently a large group of brown bats that roost in the outside eves of the Pachyderm Building at the Zoo. Future construction plans for African Elephant Crossing will disturb the roost. This project will purchase and install two large bat houses in a location near to the original roost so that the bats may relocate to them and remain in the area.

Cleveland Metroparks Zoo
Native Short Grass Prairie Butterfly Habitat
This project will convert a 1.5 acre area of Cleveland Metroparks Brookside Reservation, currently being invaded by non-native, invasive species, into a prairie habitat of native grasses and wildflowers. The primary goal is to attract greater numbers and species of butterflies, however the habitat will likely benefit and attract many other wildlife species as well.
