Use of fruit resources by two Cotton-top tamarin groups in a remaining dry tropical forest
Study Site/Location: Santa Catalina- Bolivar, Columbia
Species: Cotton-top tamarins
Abstract: This study will investigate the diet of wild Cotton-top tamarins in a dry tropical forest. The objective of the study is to investigate the food types/species available to the tamarins on a seasonal basis, the dietary selection/preferences of the animals throughout the season, and foraging and food processing behaviors. Nutritional analysis will be conducted on the species of fruits being utilized by the tamarins to quantify the food value of the various diet items. In addition to collecting data on diet, the investigation will address whether the Cotton-top tamarin appears to be selective or opportunistic in its food item choices, and how the seasonal variations of this dry climate may affect those choices.
