Availability and use of nesting sites for macaws in the Nariva swamp, Trinidad
Study Site/Location: Navira Swamp, Trinidad
Species: Blue and gold macaws
Abstract: This study is part of an on-going project to monitor reintroduced Blue and gold macaws on the island of Trinidad. Birds were released in 1999-2000 and local villagers have been monitoring flight patterns and potential nesting sites of the released birds. People in villages that border the release area play a leading role in protecting the habitat against fire and poaching. The continuation of this project will utilize the local monitoring team to investigate the availability and use of new macaw nesting sites.
