| Abstract: The wetlands located in the Bogotá area, home to five endemic species of bird, are considered one of the most endangered ecosystems at the national level, and have been deteriorating during the last 50 years. This project aims to: 1) raise awareness among the local population about the importance of the wetlands for the survival of the endangered avifauna, 2) improve the scientific knowledge about the current status of the populations of the endangered bird fauna of the lake, 3) promote the adoption among local inhabitants of non-consumptive options for the bird fauna, demonstrating the economic value of extant species, and to 4) start the effective protection of critical habitat. |
