Abstract: The Endangered Cochabamba Mountain-Finch (Poospiza garleppi) is endemic to a small area of Polylepis forest of Cochabamba, Bolivia. Asociacion Armonía has been conducting field research and finding the species absent from many areas. This has necessitated the following conservation priorities: locate key populations, identify areas of high priority, review habitat (hedge rows), and collect local information on the usage of agricultural chemicals, attitudes toward hedgerows, and conservation possibilities.

The team will visit sites previously mapped in order to evaluate the present situation. This project will complete the collection of the vital baseline data required for (1) determining the key areas for protecting the Cochabamba Mountain-Finch, (2) calculating the first precise estimate of global population size based on hard data (survey data, availability of habitat), and (3) assess the degree of fragmentation and patchiness of the species' subpopulations.
