| Conservation genetics of the critically endangered species Hylomantis lemur |

| Abstract: Frog diversity is at its highest in the Neotropics where they also face aggressive declines, to the degree that some species are going extinct before we get to describe them. Moreover, the lack of knowledge on the frogs themselves and the process of decline, indicates that their diversity is being underestimated, and so is their level of threat, which makes it very difficult to design conservation strategies. It has been recently highlighted that to secure the long-term survival of species, conservation plans should attempt to maintain the ecological and evolutionary processes that generated the species in the first place. Genetics has been identified as an effective source of information to identify and understand those processes and so to support conservation biology. This project aims to apply genetic approaches to obtain information that could effectively improve in-situ and ex-situ conservation of the critically endangered species, Agalychnis lemur, in Panama and Costa Rica. |
