Conservation status and distribution of the Maned Wolf (Chrysocyon brachyurus) in the Paraguayan Chaco
Location: PARAGUAY
Abstract: The ecology and status of maned wolves and other large mammals is virtually unknown in the humid Chaco region of Paraguay. Wildlife biologists need such information to inform conservation planning. My project will be the very first to assess the status and distribution of maned wolf in the Paraguayan Chaco. I will set camera traps in different locations and collect occupancy and habitat data for maned wolves and the associated mammalian community. Following pertinent data analysis, I will make inferences regarding the proportion of landscape use by the species and its habitat requirements, which will result in the establishment of conservation priority sites. This project will impact the preservation not only of manes wolves, but many species, habitats, and the overall integrity of the Paraguayan Chaco.
