Determining the Striped Hyaena Social System: A Necessary Step toward Addressing Global Conservation Concerns
Location: Laikipia District, Kenya
Species: Striped hyaena (Hyaena hyaena)
Abstract: This project will provide a necessary knowledge base for developing efforts to conserve the striped hyaena by combining genetic analyses with field collected data to determine the social system of this heavily persecuted and neglected species. The IUCN/SSC Hyaena Specialist Group has specifically identified such a project as a high priority and the results of this study will be shared directly with the specialist group.
