Third Annual Roadshow wraps up in September at Cleveland Metroparks Zoo
Sounds like a perfect match for the Zoo. How many lions do you know who love to read? Since 2000, Theo, Cleo, Lionel, and Leona have shown their prowess for teaching children to read on the Emmy® Award-winning PBS KIDS series Between the Lions. This summer, the literacy-loving Lions will be unleashed on their third annual Roadshow, traveling to five cities across the nation to educate and entertain some of their biggest (and littlest) fans with live, interactive shows.
On September 20, the second leg of the Roadshow brings Theo and Leona to Cleveland to share stories, songs, and laughter. They will bring the television series to life, with a show that invites children to participate as they sing about the sounds of letters, play with words, and read along with the Lions. Aaron Nigel Smith, founder of FUNdamentals of Music and Movement, will join his Lion friends in their read-alongs and add his original award-winning music to the mix.
Show times at the Zoo's Amphitheater are 11 a.m., 1 p.m., 2:30 p.m. and 4 p.m.
Between the Lions airs nationally on PBS KIDS -- in Cleveland, you can catch it on WVIZ/PBS ideastream weekdays at 6:30 a.m. For more information on the series and for an updated schedule of tour dates and venues, please visit: pbskids.org/lions.
More about Between the Lions: Between the Lions is a multimedia educational initiative created to help children ages three to seven acquire beginning reading skills and a love of reading. Built around a curriculum that incorporates the most recent scientific research in literacy instruction, each episode features an engaging variety of animation, puppetry, live action, and music. The series is part of PBS KIDS Raising Readers, a national literacy campaign funded by the Department of Education to use programs, multimedia content, and community activities to help children from low income families, ages two-to-eight, build their literacy skills.
