Zoo visitors will learn all about Cleveland Metroparks Zoo's animal enrichment at Creature Comforts, Saturday, August 14. Animal enrichment demonstrations are scheduled throughout the Zoo from 10:30 a.m. - 4 p.m.
Zookeepers will explain enrichment techniques along with the natural behaviors they promote. Enrichment comes in a variety of forms - during Creature Comforts, guests may observe orangutans being challenged to use tools, a polar bear diving for a tasty treat, a giant Pacific octopus solving a puzzle or Geoffroy's tamarins participating in scale training.
Visitors can also learn about enrichment during Professor Wylde's Animal Enrichment Show. Taking center stage in the Zoo's Amphitheater at 11:30 a.m., 1:30 p.m. and 3:30 p.m., this interactive show highlights training techniques that help Zoo staff provide the best care.
Enrichment is essential to every animal's well being and overall health. And, some enrichment activities that are good for tigers and wolves can also be good for cats and dogs. That's pet-richment. The Creature Comforts Activity Area will display pet-richment items and offer tips how to keep your pets mentally and physically active.
