Two red panda orphans -- separated by more than 350 miles -- have found companionship with each other at Cleveland Metroparks Zoo.

"Rohan," a 4-month-old male red panda cub, came to Cleveland from the National Zoo in Washington, D.C., to reside with fellow 4-month-old, "Mei Mei." She's the adorable cub who has been raised by the Zoo's veterinary staff because her mother wouldn't care for her.

Likewise, Rohan's mother couldn't care for him after he was born.

Today, after getting to know each other the past few weeks at the Sarah Allison Steffee Center for Zoological Medicine, the two balls of fur made their public debut inside the Zoo's Primate, Cat & Aquatics Building.

Mei Mei, whose name means "little sister" in Mandarin, was one of red panda triplets born to mother, "Ruth," and father, "Gordi," on June 28, 2009. Ruth is successfully raising Mei Mei's brother and sister in a separate exhibit, but raising three cubs turned out to be too much for her. Mei Mei, who weighs nearly 5 pounds, has been doing very well under the care of veterinary technicians and seems to enjoy playing and wrestling with her new-found friend, Rohan.

Rohan, whose name means "little red fuzzy one," was born July 10, 2009, and was being hand-raised at the Smithsonian's National Zoo due to maternal neglect. He arrived in Cleveland on October 6 and adapted to his new companion quite quickly.

The two cubs are now on exhibit together daily from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily inside the Primate, Cat & Aquatics Building at Cleveland Metroparks Zoo.
