Creative
Elephants For Conservation
Jo, Moshi and Martika,
the Zoo's three female African elephants have learned to paint as
an enrichment activity purely for their enjoyment. In order to keep
painting enjoyable for the elephants, it's an occasional treat and
not part of their routine. Therefore, the number of paintings will
be limited. For the first time, you have a chance to obtain one
of these rare and unique works of art while contributing to elephant
conservation.
For a tax-deductable
donation to EMA of $500, you receive an original painting. Prints
are available for a $100 contribution. Proceeds from the sale benefit
the Elephant Managers Association (EMA).
EMA is an international
non-profit organization dedicated to the welfare of the world's
elephants through improved communication, husbandry, research, education
and conservation. EMA conferences provide a forum that allow elephant
care specialists to exchange ideas and information to further implement
programs that will ensure a future for elephants.

Jo's painting style - short, quick strokes, usually at the left-hand corner
Martika's painting style - fast and wild, bold strokes.
Moshi's painting style - careful long strokes, likes to paint the zookeepers and the canvas |
Each painting
is one-of-a-kind and their styles are evolving. Part of the enjoyment
for the elephants is that they paint however they choose. Therefore,
special requests cannot be commisioned (unless you can speak elephant!)
