Two Weeks in the Life of a Titan

I chronicled the growth, blooming, and eventual demise of the Zoo's magnificent titan arum plant named Cronus. It became a labor of love that I looked forward to daily. The Zoo's wonderful Horticulture staff worked hard to nurture this amazing flower, and I am grateful to them for keeping me informed on its progress. Cronus brought over 8000 visitors to The RainForest and, on the day he bloomed, generated more hits on our web site than any other day in Zoo history. Here's a look back.

A Bloomin' Good Time

Despite the 90 degree temps on Sunday, thousands of visitors turned out to enjoy ZooBlooms, an event dedicated to the Zoo's award-winning gardens and beautiful landscapes. Narrated garden tram tours, eco-friendly crafts and a ladybug release were just a few of the activities zoo-goers enjoyed throughout the day.

T. Rex on Tour

A juvenile animatronic T. Rex will be appearing live this summer to promote the Zoo's 2007 summer exhibit "DINOSAURS!" It is part of an outreach program that also includes giveaways and opportunities to meet Zoo staff members and get close to small animals.
