Frog Hunter Discovers New Species

Kathy Krynak, Cleveland Metroparks Zoo's amphibian keeper and part-time frog hunter, shared field notes with me from her most recent expedition, during which she traveled to Ecuador with a team of volunteers to conduct an amphibian survey of the land of Reserva Las Grelarias. The survey, sponsored by Cleveland Metroparks Zoo, appears to have uncovered at least three unknown frog species including the "Punk Rocker Frog" shown in the photo to the left. Read about the adventure in her Journal of a Frog Hunter.

A Match Made in ... the Zoo

It turns out the animals aren't the only ones who can find the perfect partner at the Zoo!

Elephantennial Recap and Photos

Cleveland Metroparks Zoo celebrated 100 years of caring for elephants on July 27, 2007 with "Elephantennial." Visitors enjoyed a day filled with elephant activities ranging from elephant painting demonstrations to watching the elephants eat a ketchup-covered, fruit-filled cake. Kids had a chance to paint like the elephants and took home an elephant trading card commemorating the Zoo's 125th anniversary. Animal keepers answered questions about everyone's favorite pachyderms and Zoo Director Steve Taylor talked to guests about the Zoo's plans for its next big exhibit, African Elephant Crossing.

ZooTube is Now on YouTube

To meet our users' growing demand for streaming web content and to decrease the time necessary to download large files, Cleveland Metroparks Zoo has created a YouTube channel. Our video podcasts and other video content are now available at YouTube.com/cmzootube. We've even created a rhino playlist for those looking to review the video we've taken of our baby black rhino, Zuri.

Feel free to stop by and watch, subscribe, add us as a friend, or just leave us a comment. And while you're at it, take in our newest vodcast, "Coconut Comforts," where we had a bit of fun in hyping our upcoming animal enrichment event, Creature Comforts, on August 11. Hope to see you there.
