Zoo gets Boo-ier by the Minute

Cleveland Metroparks Zoo is getting more Boo-ified by the minute. Today's update includes the final hay-zing of the maze (we're expecting the haunting to occur on October 18, the first day of Boo), the laying of gravestones and some not-so-spooky greenhouse ghouls. Time is running out for Boo tickets, so get yours today before it's too late.

Boo at the Applebee's

In celebration of Applebee's Neighborhood Nights at Boo at the Zoo on Thursdays, October 18 & 25, northeast Ohio area Applebee's held an in-store decorating contest for employees. We love their designs - check out photos of the winning stores and find out more about Applebee's and Boo.

Gorilla Project to be Highlighted in Cleveland Plain Dealer

Here's a heads-up: Cleveland Metroparks Zoo's newly launched Gorilla Health Project will be featured in Donna J. Miller's "Animals in the News" column in the Metro section of the Cleveland Plain Dealer on Sunday, October 21, 2007. You can also read the column online at cleveland.com.

The Zoo's Gorilla Health Project aims to explore and ultimately prevent chronic heart disease and other medical issues prevalent among gorillas in North American zoos. The launch of the project comes just after last month's reclassification of Western lowland gorillas from "endangered" to "critically endangered" by the World Conservation Union. This bleak outlook for gorillas underscores the importance of Cleveland Metroparks Zoo's strengthened commitment to improving the future for gorillas in zoos (read the news release).
