Our Baby Giraffe Has Been Named!

Thanks to everyone who voted at myfoxcleveland.com to help us pick a name for the new baby giraffe here at Cleveland Metroparks Zoo. The winning name, announced this morning, is "Grace." The giraffe keepers suggested the name because the baby is, well ... let's just say she's still learning to be more graceful on her feet. Stop by the Zoo and see Grace soon!

Do Gorillas have Personalities?

In commenting on my first blog, Cindy was interested in our gorillas and asked how their personalities differ. Because people ask me things like this all the time, I wanted to share more than just a comment. So read on to find out more about the Zoo's two male gorillas and check out one of my little gorilla anecdotes.

Time's Running Out to Experience TOUCH!

So far this summer, more than 220,000 people have experienced Cleveland Metroparks Zoo's hands-on attraction TOUCH! Amazing Rays & Sharks. But I have to warn you, the summer sensation closes for the season on Sunday, September 28. I checked it out for the first time the other day, and I highly recommend you do the same.

Help Us Name Our Baby Giraffe!

Our adorable baby giraffe needs a name, and you can help us pick one for her. Watch Fox 8 News in the Morning all week long for details, or visit their website to vote for your favorite name. We'll announce the winning name right here on The Roar Report on Friday morning. And don't forget you can see our baby giraffe on exhibit daily here at Cleveland Metroparks Zoo.

The Trunk Party: A Celebration WE Will Not Forget

Check out what happened at the event and view our exclusive photos of Cleveland Metroparks Zoo's Trunk Party - our official farewell to elephants (for now).  Where you there? Were you caught on camera? Are you still wearing your elephant ears?

Creature Comforts 2008 Wrap Video

By popular demand, I've managed to put together a little video of scenes from Cleveland Metroparks Zoo's Creature Comforts event. That day we saw some stunning animal enrichment demonstrations involving lions, tigers and bears with papier-mâché, watermelons, bonesicles and, believe it or not, an entire campsite. And the sloth bears dazzled everyone. Just watch.

Calling all shutterbugs! Did you take your best shot at the Zoo this summer? You better hurry because the Zoo's amateur Photo Safari photo contest ends September 1.

Pets Respect Amphibians and Wildlife

Cairn terriers Wylee (left) and Koko (right) and their owners visited Medina County's Summer Celebration on July 26th, and made a personal pledge to “Leap into Action” and always be kind to amphibians. They learned that it is important for dogs (and cats) to respect amphibians and other wildlife in order to keep both wildlife and pets safe and healthy! They also learned that respecting amphibians includes not trying to eat them…

Thanks Wylee and Koko! Think about what you can do to be a responsible pet owner when it comes to wildlife!

Photo Gallery of Creature Comforts

The Zoo's annual Creature Comforts event turned out to be one of the best days, weather-wise, of the summer. The enrichment demonstrations were outstanding this year, and we wanted to share with you some photos of the more riveting ones. Check out our photo gallery.

Creatures get Comforts (and some get Watermelons)

Hey everyone out in web-land, sorry I've not been around these parts for a while, but I wanted to give everyone a heads-up on my favorite annual event here at Cleveland Metroparks Zoo: Creature Comforts. Come down to the Zoo on Saturday, August 9 and learn all about how our animal keepers keep our animals engaged and active in their exhibits. And check out my photos of a special treat we gave our gorillas today.
