Winning Photo Safari Entries Announced Next Week!

Attention Photo Safari participants -- Yesterday, a panel of judges poured through more than 800 entries. It wasn't easy but first, second and third place winners (and Best of Show) have been selected. All of the winners along with their photographs will be available for viewing on the Zoo's website no later than Wednesday, September 24.

Congratulations to Michael Soo of Akron. This beautiful picture of a clouded leopard took third place in the mammal category.  Check back next week to see all of the winners.

Will You Be Our Millionth Visitor of 2008?

So far this year, 970,903 people have visited Cleveland Metroparks Zoo. I'm guessing we'll hit the 1 million mark within the next few weeks. And if you're our lucky millionth visitor of 2008, we'll hook you up with a prize package including a one-year membership to the Cleveland Zoological Society (which comes with free Zoo admission) and more fun stuff. Good luck!

Weekend Amphibian Adventures

Wondering what to do on your days off? I say create your own amphibian adventure to help celebrate Year of the Frog! Last weekend, Andy Avrum (a naturalist by trade) took some friends out and about Lake County in search of marbled salamanders. It was great. It seemed that every log he rolled had a salamander under it. The day was mostly just for fun, but while having our fun, we did help with an ongoing research project being conducted by Cleveland Metroparks and Mount Union College.
