Elephant Update! from Columbus

As most of you know, Cleveland Metroparks Zoo's three female elephants - Jo, Moshi and Martika - have been living in Columbus since September 2008 (read the press release). To address the many requests for an update on their progress, we've decided to just SHOW you. Here's a great photo of elephant keeper Mitch Zverina in front of their new digs at the Columbus Zoo. With the warmer weather upon us, you can catch them on exhibit daily. But give yourself extra time, as the Columbus Zoo is celebrating the birth of a baby Asian elephant and we're told the elephant area can be crowded. And if you do make it to the Columbus Zoo, we'd love to hear how our herd is doing.

The RainForest Features more than just New Animals

I just got back from a tour of the new Crocodile Café in The RainForest and I have to say, I may no longer be packing my lunch in the morning. An expanded menu and a more streamlined serving space are some of the highlights of the new café. You may be tempted to visit the Zoo just to get a bite of the mouthwatering pizza.

Fun in the Sun Photo Gallery: Animals, Babies and Blooms

Yesterday's weather sent me on a walkabout with my camera - only to find that I was not alone. The Zoo was hoppin' (literally) with animals and people, and I was able to get some great shots in the Zoo's African Savanna and Australian Adventure - including one of our wallaby joeys.

And Then There Were Three...

Three hatchlings, that is. It's that time of year again - time for the announcement of a newly-hatched Northern spider tortoise. It happened in March 2007. It happened in March 2008. And, yes, it happened again this year. Read more about the Zoo's third success (in as many years) in hatching this critically endangered subspecies.
