That's Life .... at the Zoo!

Tune in to "That's Life with Robin Swoboda" at 10 tomorrow morning on Fox 8 to see a whirlwind tour of Cleveland Metroparks Zoo. We had a blast taping the episode with Robin and friends, so we can't wait to see the show!

Our newest resident koala turned six yesterday. He celebrated by hanging out in his outdoor exhibit and munching on birthday ca.. um, I mean, birthday eucalyptus. We celebrated too. Check out some photos of the event.

The Great Lake Erie Boat Float is Saturday, October 3 at 9 a.m. Edgewater Park

The Great Lake Erie Boat Float will be held on Saturday, October 3 at the Lower Edgewater State Park Beach. The boat launch is scheduled for 9 a.m. rain or shine.

Marcus Eriksen, visiting scientist, author, and  world traveler, draws attention to the impacts of plastic waste on the world's oceans, lakes and rivers.  On Saturday, Oct. 3, he will set sail Lake Erie on a raft made of plastic bottles and bags called the COLA-HOGA!

The Cleveland Metroparks youth volunteers, the Zoo Crew, and the Sea Scouts have registered their homemade junk rafts too.  Join the fun!

Support Cleveland Metroparks Zoo and get a cool DINOSAURS! magnet frame for your refrigerator! Bob Evans is hosting a Zoo fundraiser by selling magnetic photo frames in celebration of DINOSAURS! Get yours at one of the 25 area Bob Evans Restaurants to highlight all your great summer memories.

Big Creek Cleanup Wed. August 19, 2009 5- 8pm

Have fun and help cleanup the Zoo's watershed, Big Creek. 

Meet at Zoo’s Palava Hut between 5 and 5:30pm for sign-in, food and refreshments.

Wear clothes that can get dirty and possibly wet. Close-toed shoes a must. Some work gloves and rubber boots will be available or bring your own.

All participants will be required to sign a waiver to participate. Adolescents (12-17) welcome if accompanied by parent.

It's not too late to enter the Zoo's Photo Safari Contest.  Just mail us your favorite Zoo photos taken between May 25 & September 7, 2009. You could win a Zoo family membership, Zoo passes, and Discount Drug Mart gift certificates. And, the Best of Show winner will receive a behind-the scenes tour of the Zoo.

Saturday, July 4, is Independence Day and the Zoo is getting all decked out for the occasion. The second-annual Red, White & Zoo event will feature discounts and special animal activities. Even the Horticulture staff is involved. Like last year, they've created another giant American Flag out of red, white and blue flowers.

The Gardeners of Tomorrow

Zoo Crew teens learned from an even younger generation when they visited and took care of Benjamin Franklin Elementary School Garden at the invitation of the Master Gardeners of Cuyahoga County. The article was written by Brandon Garnet, a 10th grade student at North Royalton High School.
