Dub the Cubs 2.0!

The list of potential names represents the history and geography of Wyoming, so please choose your favorite from the list of boy names and your favorite from the list of girl names and help us dub the cubs!

The poll will run through September 30 and the results will be released on October 3.

Female cub:

Belle – The Belle Fourche River flows through Wyoming and South Dakota past Devils Tower National Monument in Crook County, Wyoming.

Cheyenne – Is the capital and most populous city in Wyoming. It is named after the Cheyenne tribe of the Great Plains.

Jade – Jade is the state gemstone of Wyoming.

Nellie – The first female governor in the United States was Nellie Tayloe Ross. She was governor of Wyoming from 1925-1927 and also the first female director of the U.S. Mint, from 1933-1953.

Wedu – Means bear in the language of the Shoshone tribe.

Casper – The second most populous city in Wyoming sits at the foot of Casper Mountain along the North Platte River.

Clark – After William Clark, one of the leaders of the Lewis and Clark Expedition commissioned by Thomas Jefferson to explore the Louisiana Purchase and search for a “Northwest Passage” to Asia in 1803.

Lewis – After Meriwether Lewis, the leader of the Lewis and Clark Expedition.

Jackson – Is a town in the Jackson Hole Valley near the Teton Mountains in Wyoming.

Wakinu – A mythical grizzly bear from the legends of the Shoshone tribe.

Meerkat Names Chosen by Cast of Hot in Cleveland

The cast of TV Land's "Hot in Cleveland" were in Cleveland today to accept the keys to the city in a ceremony at Tower City. As part of the ceremony, the Zoo's meerkats were given names chosen by the four cast members. Find out what names they chose!

With the yearly opening of our summer exhibits, I always look forward to writing a blog about one of the great photo opportunities at Cleveland Metroparks Zoo -- our butterfly exhibit, FLUTTER! Inside the Zoo's Public Greenhouse (across from Waterfowl Lake), FLUTTER! is once again a photographer's paradise and a feast for the senses, with its beautiful free-flying butterflies, soothing tunes and rare aromatic plants.
