This week marks National Zoo Keeper week across the country. Created by The American Association of Zoo Keepers (AAZK), National Zoo Keeper Week recognizes the significant role of zoo keepers and aquarists in animal care and conservation. There are approximately 6,000 animal care professionals in the United States, caring for more than 700,000 animals in 218 AZA-accredited zoos and aquariums. Phew…that’s a lot of numbers. Bottom line, Cleveland Metroparks Zoo has an incredible animal care staff and we appreciate all that they do! Here are just a few of our dedicated keepers:
Heather Strawn at DreamNight.

Elliot Burton during an elephant training session.

Shane Good dicing up a sea lion diet.

Elephant keeper Meghan Sharp answers guests' questions.

Kathy Krynak examining a frog.

Curt Gindlesperger talking with visitors about the tigers.

Nick Zarlinga doing work in the wolf exhibit.

Tim Pappas in the Vet Hospital at DreamNight.

Stephanie Poduska also at DreamNight.

Amy Brown during a Meet the Keeper session with the Zoo's new New Guinea singing dogs.

Elephant keeper, Mitch Zverina during the Zoo's Elephantennial celebration.

Again, thank you to all the hard-working animal keepers at Cleveland Metroparks Zoo!
