Gone in 10 Seconds

The Fulton Road Bridge was imploded on May 1, 2007 at 6 p.m. About a thousand spectators showed up at Brookside Reservation to watch the blast. We received a nice sequence of photographs from Casey Batule showing part of the demolition from start to finish.

Check this out, a nice image sequence from Cleveland Metroparks photographer Casey Batule showing a single span of the Fulton Road Bridge as it was being imploded (you can view a video of the full demolition on the Zoo's web site):

This is great news about the bridge reconstuction! Though I miss it by a yr.
I was at the zoo back in 2004 with a friend. First time I''d ever been to a zoo in my 37 yrs, I was astouned by the well planned out exibits and the awesome animals. I live in Maine and only see the Natural wildlife, from this area. Yes, I remember going under that bridge. It was quite freaky, to say the least. Obvious re-bar and Crumbling concrete was a concern, not only for me but the other patrons. I have a panic disorder, and all I could see was it coming down on someone''s head, splat.
Then when I found out we had driven over it to get to the zoo, I was writhing inside, thinking...",we have to go back over THAT??",
So anyhow it is good to know steps are being made to make it safer, not only for the zoo patrons, but for the drivers high above. Are there going to be new Pics on this site to show the updated progress as it is accomplished? It would be neat to follow.
I most definitely want to visit again. It was an expirience, that I never will be able to fully describe to my friends here. One thing I learned though... bring more film!! : ))
An aspired Patron,
June Bishop
