Build and Float Your Plastic Boat at The Second Annual Great Lake Erie Boat Float

Recent reports tell of the Great Garbage Patch located in the Pacific Ocean, but we don't have to go to the ocean to see the impact of plastic. The beaches on our own Lake Erie tell a similar story. In 2009, boats were made out of recyclable materials floated on Lake Erie during a unique event. Join us this year at The Second Annual Great Lake Erie Boat Float with your own plastic boat to help raise awareness about the impact of plastic on our environment!

The Boat Float will be taking place on Saturday, September 11, 2010 at Lower Edgewater State Park Beach here in Cleveland, Ohio. Boats will launch at 9AM. All boats are to be made out of post-consumer recyclable materials. Winners will be recognized in three categories:
  • Fastest Boat
  • Best Use of Recyclable Materials
  • Most Artistic Style
The "Best Use of Recyclable Materials" winner will have their boat recycled by PolyFlow using an innovative technology that for the first time allows true recycling of mixed dirty plastic and rubber waste (www.polyflowcorp.com).

Registration is required for all participants sailing their plastic boat in The Great Lake Erie Boat Float.

Visit www.LakeErieBoatFloat.org to register today!

All participants must sign a liability waiver and will be required to wear a life jacket while in the water.

Spectators are welcome as well! Come watch the boats float on September 11th and join the beach cleanup.
