Lynn Charles came to the Zoo because she wanted to work with people - specifically the large population that makes up Cleveland Metroparks Zoo's stellar Volunteer force. What she found out was that she also loves the Zoo's animals and plants, ironically, the very reason most of the Zoo's other employees came here.![]() |

What do you do at the Zoo? My title is Manager, Volunteer Services. I recruit and train adult volunteers. I also assist with the coordination, planning and assignment of volunteer activities, on grounds at the Zoo and also off-site events. We have about 500 volunteers who work our Zoo exhibits as greeters, ambassadors and interpretive guides.
What was the first Zoo job you ever had? This is it! This is my first experience ever, working up close and personal at a Zoo.
Favorite animal: Gorillas
Favorite part of the Zoo: Anywhere on Zoo grounds where I can view the beautiful gardens.
Why I work at the Zoo: Because Volunteers are the coolest!!
Best thing about living in Northeast Ohio (other than the Zoo, of course!): The opportunity to see the change in seasons.
A funny thing happened at the Zoo . . . I started this job to work with people - the Volunteers, and I have always been a "people person." I have fallen in love with the animals.
One animal characteristic you wish you could have and why: Speed is a good thing. If I could move as fast as the cheetah I could get a lot more accomplished.
