Sherlock Holmes and the Case of the Missing Noon Year's Eve Ball

The 2012 Noon Year's Eve ball has gone missing! The ball was last seen in the Zoo's Welcome Plaza prepping for the big day. Whoever took it left a trail of clues behind and we've managed to narrow it down to a list of suspects. We hope you can don your best Sherlock Holmes hat with us and help us sort through the clues and figure out who it was.

UPDATE: Time to announce who took the ball and the winner of our contest!

Did you figure it out? The culprit of the Missing Noon Year's Eve Ball is...Johari the black rhino!

But culprit? Not really. It turns out she only wanted to play with the ball! She rolled it from the welcome plaza to her home in the rhino barn.

The ball has since been recovered, and replaced with other toys for Johari, and our Noon Year's Eve celebration will go on as planned! See you there! Thanks for playing our game!

Congratulations to our winner Colleen of Parma!

  • The troop of Colobus monkeys (Patrick, Stormy, Charlie, Mr. Ed, KJ & Petri)
  • Daniel the Bornean orangutan
  • Johari the black rhino

Clues:

Clue #4: Now for the best clue! This will help you crack the case! We found a footprint! It has three toes and looksl ike a four leaf clover. What animal could this footprint belong to?

Clue #3: Whoever it was seemed to stop for a snack. A small pile of hay was found on the Zoo path near Monkey island...what animal from the suspect list would eath both browse and hay?

Clue #2: Traces of mud were also found at the scene. Resembles a line of mud, as if the ball was being rolled away...

Clue #1: Zoo staff spotted a small pile of browse in the Welcome Plaza. Browse are young twigs, leaves and shoots that are fit for animals to eat. If browse were found in the Zoo's welcome plaza that must mean an animal had something to do with the missing ball. What animal from the list of suspects above eats browse?

Check back tomorrow for another clue! And don't forget to enter your guess here: http://tinyurl.com/MissingNYEball.

Good luck!

Eligibility: The contest is open to all fans and followers of Cleveland Metroparks Zoo’s Social Media and Web site outlets.
