Have you ever wondered who is behind some of the beautiful gardens at the Zoo? Meet Jeff DeLuca, one of the Zoo's horticulturists!
Name: Jeff DeLucaResidence: Broadview Heights
Hometown: Cleveland
What do you do at the Zoo? I’m a horticulturist. I take care of the plants mainly in the African Savanna area of the Zoo including African Elephant Crossing, Savanna Ridge and Main Gate.
What was the first Zoo job you ever had? When I was in high school I worked at the Zoo in the Service Maintenance Division. On my first day I was nervous because I was only 16 years old.
Favorite animal: polar bears
Favorite part of the Zoo: RainForest
Why I work at the Zoo: I always liked the outdoors.
Best thing about living in Northeast Ohio (other than the Zoo, of course!): Hmm, probably fishing in Lake Erie.
One animal characteristic you wish you could have and why: I would like to be a tree frog. Because you can go anywhere, from underwater to climbing up a tree.
