Who's Who: Meet Group Sales Manager Stacy DeChant

Have you ever wanted to have an event at the Zoo? If so, Group Sales Manager Stacy DeChant is the woman to call! She handles the areas of the Zoo that are available for rent by the public.

Name
: Stacy DeChant

Residence: Cleveland

Hometown: Cleveland

What do you do at the Zoo? I am the Group Sales Manager for the Zoo. Many areas of the Zoo are rentable for special events like weddings, picnics, meetings and parties. I help people find the perfect venue for their event, manage the contracts, keep tabs on schedules and coordinate plans with any other Zoo departments that might need to be involved. It’s hectic, but every day is a new challenge to solve which keeps it interesting!

What was the first job you ever had? My first job was a dietary aide in a retirement home. I served meals and cleaned up after dinner for the residents. It was a perfect job as I really enjoyed the residents; they had such great stories to share about “when they were my age.”

Favorite animal: Rhinoceros

Favorite part of the Zoo: Giraffe Hill, I love to stand and look at the animals on the African Savanna and be able to turn around and see the creek and the Fulton Road bridge! It is the best of all worlds -- wildlife, nature and city.

Why I work at the Zoo: Because I enjoy playing a role in helping a guest have a unique and memorable event. I never get tired of hearing, “You can have your wedding at the Zoo?!” Who wouldn’t love getting married in front of the orangutans?

Best thing about living in Northeast Ohio (other than the Zoo, of course!): There is always a sports team that needs cheering for! I am a Browns fans forever!

A funny thing happened at the Zoo . . . Ha ha! Too many to mention!

One animal characteristic you wish you could have and why: I wish I had fur like a polar bear to keep warm, so I didn’t have to wear so many layers in the cold Cleveland winters!
